Real Estate Investing- The Hidden Key to Success
By Adam King (Investor/Personal Coach)
There is a difference between dreams of experiences that have not happened and dreams from experience. Dreams of experience can be heartwarming and exciting, but there’s always a kind of dim cloudiness about them. There can also be something in those dreams that feels just out of reach. However, there are dreams that exist that have started from a good solid foundation, a foundation that has already been lived and experienced.
What I am talking about here is the difference between speculation and fact. Most people wanting to have financial freedom must start from a place that is purely hypothesis. They do not have the experience yet to make an educated choice of what would work for them and what wouldn’t. This is ironically a spiritual dilemma. However, it is also a financial dilemma. We must understand this before we can make a choice. This is why you are reading this right now. So you can become informed from another’s experience of simply what is and what isn’t.
I am happy to tell you that you are in luck. I have dreamt and lived the dream. I have experienced all of the beautiful colors and tastes of what most of us call success. I have also experienced illusion and the compulsive workings of my mind. I have been through all of the down times where all colors turn to grey. I have seen the fantasy of money fade from my dreams. It’s like anything else in life, if there is too much blue, then blue itself will cease to exist from your perception.
Now it is time we lay the framework. It doesn’t start with which course or boot-camp to buy, or which guru relates to you the most. It starts with you. Now is the time to realize that this is the one and only aspect of success that needs work. It’s not a matter of keeping track of the scorecard; it’s a matter of perception. This perception is yours and yours alone. It’s the initial framework that must be built in order to be able to compare and choose. How do you do this you ask? Simple, as Ockham’s Razor implies; the simplest and least complicated solution to a problem is almost always the best path towards resolve.
So, what is the first step on this path? Grab a mirror and relax. Take a deep breath and get ready to go on a journey. Is it going to hurt you ask? Yes, most of the time it begins as an unpleasant endeavor. However, once you get past the initial egoic retaliation, it all starts to make sense. You start to see certain aspects of yourself fall aside as the curtain drops. You start to see beliefs that you carry begin to dissolve. Heck, you may even start laughing as I did. After realizing how full of crap I was there was nothing left but to have a good chuckle. Of course, that came after the tears.
What we’re doing here isn’t magic but it may seem that way at first. If you can silence your mind enough to take a good hard look at yourself, you may finally get some answers you desperately need. Now, after laying this “personal framework” you may be able to see the wizard behind the workings of the artificial plan. That wizard of course, is the delusional idea that creative real estate investing can be done the same way by anyone. Not only will this “awareness” help you make better decisions on where to start, but it will most likely get you through the beginning once you’ve made that decision.
So what questions should we ask to decipher what will work for you? Simple, questions that relate to our life situation, abilities, strengths and weaknesses. Then we ask the fun questions. What do I really want? When do I want it? And of course, what am I willing to give to get it. This practice alone will begin to clarify the true definition of you. It will also give you the ability to start working on whatever it is that makes you seek the truth. You and I know the truth. The truth is that there is a reason, a “why” you want to get into this business. And here’s a news flash, it ain’t money.
We are now standing at the crossroads with another dilemma. Didn’t you start reading this article to learn something about real estate investing? If so, where the heck did we get off track to making this so personal? Now’s a good time to start laughing. Our brains try to compensate for the confusion, but fail to find answers. The only thing left is to become aware of the truth. Do you want to know the secret of what niche to pick? Do you want to know if you can talk with sellers or deal with rejection? Do you want to know if this business is even for you?
Relax, breathe and become aware of you. Pay attention to what it is you are really after. If you start with the lies that have been taught to you that say everything will be easy, you will fail. But if you can learn to be strong and stand alone, then you will get through the tough times like a champion. You will be able to get through things effortlessly that would bring other’s to their knees. You will be able to do this because you knew who you were before you started. The obstacles simply came and got dealt with. And finally, you were able to be rational during your own decision making.
And last but not least, you may even finally come to the conclusion as I have, that the path itself is the destination and the destination is nothing more than an illusion that has been selfishly fabricated to benefit its creator.
